Springtime in Berkeley

Berkeley is in full bloom. Blossoms like these cover the entire facade of a house over the hill in Park Hills.

Dozens of these are in bloom along Grizzly Peak Boulevard.

The front gate of Park Hills is lined with blooming apple trees.

Adios Guatemala

Here are the final shots from Guatemala.

The first is a detail of the small wall that hides the doors to the toilets at La Lancha. Not that you're interested in toilets. The construction, rocks between branches, is a common way of building houses, and occasionally fences, in northern Guatemala. More importantly, the unstuccoed wall is beautiful.

El Peten is rural. This is the refreshment stand adjacent to the airport. Life is more casual here.

Back in California, I was wandering through the "Albany Bulb," a spit of land jutting into the Bay. It's the result of years of dumping -- broken concrete, rebar, and pieces of former buildings. Neglected, nature covered the bulb with plants. Artists have stakes out a portion for outdoor paintings and junk sculpture. Lots of it. And it works. This is the only "unplanned" land on San Francisco Bay. I found an old Nokia in the gravel and shot this portrait. I call it "Father and Son."
